Renting your own car for a day or two or for your entire stay is always an option for the independent travellers.
Prices start from less than 1,000 THB per day for small cars. When renting a car always check the insurance coverage provided and, if you’re planning some long journeys, if there are any mileage limitations.

Boat Transport
For all island locations there are scheduled ferries and in the most popular areas there is the possibility of private boat transfers.
Taking a private boat gives you the option of reaching your destination across the water but enjoying some detours and sightseeing along the way.

Longtail Boat Service
From Ao Nang beach to Tonsai beach and Railay beaches. They are organised with a queue arrangement.
The boats leave when they have a full or close to full capacity of passengers. If you don’t want to wait a price for a ‘private’ trip can also be negotiated with the same boat captains.
Krabi Local Transport and Public Transport
For the independent travellers there’s a variety of local transport options even outside of the large towns.
Tuk Tuks
Tuk Tuks in Bangkok are the (in)famous, colourful and raucous three wheeled machines. In Krabi a Tuk Tuk is a registered 4 wheeled mini-minivan. Painted bright red and open design they can comfortably seat 8 people on the 2 bench seats. Hail them on the street and negotiate a price to your destination.
Songtaews
Songtaews are typically pick up trucks with a covered rear deck where bench seats have been fitted. They are used as public transport in most areas where bigger buses would not be appropriate. In Krabi they are painted white with blue lettering on the side indicating which routes they take. You’ll see them parked in the centre of Krabi town and crawling along the road sides in busy areas ready to pick up passengers. Tell the driver where you want to go and pay the fare.
Taxis
You won’t find taxis ‘for hire’ driving around to be hailed in the same way you find them in big cities. The easiest way to arrange a taxi is to contact us or you can choose to use an app such as Bolt or Grab Taxi. Though you may find there’s no car availability in rural areas away from the main tourist destinations.
Motorbike Taxis
Motorbike taxis are popular in Krabi town for short journeys. You’ll see motorbike taxi drivers in their hi-viz vests. Negotiate the fare to where you want to go.
Long Distance Buses
From Krabi bus station you can take a bus or a coach to Bangkok and to all the Southern provincial capitals and stops along the routes.
Koh Samui and Koh Phangan from Krabi
If you want to travel independently from Krabi to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan then you would take a bus to Surat Thani.

Trains from Krabi
If you want to travel by train to Bangkok or to the Malaysian border, the closest train station is Thung Song Junction in Nakhon Sri Thammarat province. Alternatively go to Surat Thani or Nakhon Sri Thammarat main provincial towns.
